What are eyelash extensions and how are they applied?

 

Eyelash extensions are synthetic lashes made of a lightweight polyester, silk or faux mink material. These “lashes” are made to look like your own natural lashes. They create increased length and fullness. Extensions are available in many different lengths, curls, and thickness.

The proper length and size is determined for each client by their lash stylist, and multiple sizes are used for each client. The lashes are applied to your natural lashes one by one.

What is the difference between Classic, Hybrid and Volume lash extensions?

 

Classic lash extensions use a synthetic eyelash that is either 0.12mm or 0.15mm in diameter and attach it to your natural eyelash one by one covering 80-90% of your natural eyelashes. The extension will usually double the thickness of your natural lash and lengths are 20-50% longer than your natural lashes.

Hybrid lashes application is a combination of the classic and volume technique.  I will usually place 1/2 extensions with classic and finish the other half of the extension application with volume lashes. This is a beautiful combination. Dense and not too fluffy looking. 

 

Volume lashes are used to create more dense fluffy appearance. I generally use lashes that range from  0.07mm-0.03mm in diameter for 2D-6D Volume on each eyelash. The multiple lashes are wrapped around each natural lash in a fan type configuration creating more volume and density.

How long do lash extensions last?

 

Each lash has a different life cycle.  The lash cycle is about 30 to 60 days, which varies depending on each individual person. The extension will stay on your lashes for the remaining lash life.

Lashes grow from the follicle, mature and then fall out. They constantly shed and replace themselves—with proper application, you can wear lash extensions for years and not need a break.

I recommend 2-3 week lash refill appointments.

 

How often are refills needed?  

A touch-up is recommended 2 weeks after the initial set and 2-3 weeks there on after to maintain the fullness of lush lashes.  A natural eyelash sheds every 30 to 60 days on average due to the natural growth cycle, which is naturally replaced with the growth of a new eyelash. At any given moment, each of your natural eyelashes is at a different stage of its life cycle. A touch up is needed to replenish the lashes that have completed their life cycle.

 

What is the application process?

It takes 1.5 to 2 hours for a full set application, depending on the amount of lashes applied.  The client is comfortably reclined with their eyes closed while the lash extensions are applied individually to their natural lashes. The procedure is comfortable and relaxing.

 

Do the extensions damage the natural lashes?  

Extensions do not damage the lash or the growth of new lashes when the extensions are properly isolated and applied. The adhesive is formulated to create a polypeptide bond, specifically for human lashes. The adhesive dries very soft on lashes allowing the extensions to stay flexible and bouncy just like your own lashes. The extensions will adhere to the lashes softly and comfortably while not damaging your natural lashes.

Can I apply mascara to the extentions?

The extensions are naturally curved and darken your lashes, which will make them look vivid.  Specially formulated mascaras can be worn on the tips of the extension for a more dramatic effect.

They are very easy to maintain.  Detailed easy care maintenance instructions will be given following your procedure.

What are Russian volume extensions?

​

These extensions consist of applying multiple lash extensions to each natural eyelash in a fanned shape. This can result in having 200- 500 eyelash extensions applied to each eye, rather than the regular 50-100 extensions per eye with the classic eyelash extensions. When multiple volume lashes are applied, they create a full and natural feather-effect look.

Why do lash extensions cost so much?

​

Eyelash extensions, when applied properly, is a very intricate, time-consuming practice that requires a high level of skill and attention to detail. The products that I use at Gia Aesthetics are only of the highest quality and are very costly. It takes a lot of practice and time to master the art of eyelash application.

Are lashes attached to the skin?

 

No, lash extensions are individually attached to your own natural lashes, one by one. They are attached approximately 1/2-1 mm away from the eyelid on the natural eyelash.
