Collagen is among the most abundant proteins in the body. It actually makes up for 30% of all the protein in your body, and most of the protein in your skin – 75% total. During childhood and early adulthood, the body produces plenty of collagen. As we enter our middle 20’s, unfortunately, the amount of collagen begins to decline. Even more so in women due to menopause where a significant amount of collagen is lost in the first 5 years.

Collagen is a protein that serves as one of the main building blocks for your bones, skin, hair, muscles, tendons and ligaments. It is what keeps our skin from sagging, giving us that plump, youthful look.

The production of collagen begins to decline usually at the age of around 25. From here on, the body will produce around 1% less collagen per year. Initially, there won’t be many obvious changes despite the lower collagen production. Wrinkles and other signs of aging appear gradually.

By 40, collagen drops dramatically by about 50%, leading to signs of aging such as wrinkles, skin sagging, skin drying and loss of energy.

Around the age of 50, however, collagen production diminishes very significantly, and visible aging accelerates.

Needleless Carboxytherapy is a type of collagen induction procedure relatively new in North America but has been safely and effectively performed in Europe for many years.  Other popular collagen promoting procedures are ultrasound, radiofrequency and microneedling.

What is Collagen Banking?

Collagen banking refers to the idea of boosting collagen production now (in your 20s and early 30s) so your body will have more of it later – when your skin begins to show signs of aging.

"We have a finite amount of elastin, and largely this can’t be stimulated to regrow.  It’s about investing in your skin now—doing things to encourage collagen growth and protecting against UV damage."

-Dr. Melanie Palm

It’s a good idea to start collagen-stimulating treatments in your 20s to mitigate future collagen loss as your body starts losing more collagen during the late 20s. You want to create the strongest skin foundation possible while your skin cells are still functioning optimally. The sooner this process starts the less damage there is that has to be undone and the more these treatments can work toward building and maintaining collagen.

Gia Aesthetics

Gia Lashes & Aesthetics presents non-Invasive Carboxytherapy facial, originally done with needle infusion, is a treatment where carbon dioxide is infused into the skin to encourage an increased flow of oxygen. Co2 is a naturally occurring gas in the body so it cannot cause any allergic or unwanted reactions.

By infusing Co2 into the skin it signals our body to secure oxygen to the tissue in the area being treated and increases natural growth factors. Within several days after the treatment there is an increased natural distribution of oxygen, lymph drainage is increased and skin rejuvenation is achieved.

The first results are visible immediately after the treatment: smaller air pores and wrinkles, brighter skin, fewer pigment spots, skin becomes more elastic and firmer. Non-invasive carboxytherapy improves regenerative processes in the deeper layers of the skin, so all positive effects appear on the skin within a few weeks. Depending on the desired results, 10 treatments are recommended every 8-10 days. The results of carboxytherapy are cumulative – improved results after each treatment.

Effects of collagen stimulation and remodeling takes place 2-6 months, depending on the individual's age and condition of their skin

HOW DOES IT WORK?

As we age, capillaries become dormant with decreasing cells of oxygen; this combined with environmental stresses and other variables, inhibits the ability of cells to regenerate and function properly and the skin slowly loses its elasticity and collagen.

By the age 30, oxygen levels in your skin drop by 25% and 50% by age 40. The body will first utilize oxygen in the major organs and lastly, go to the skin. When the skin doesn’t get enough oxygen it becomes more prone to aging, dryness and laxity.

By infusing CO2 into the skin, the body interprets this as an oxygen deficit and responds by increasing blood flow and growth factors such as VEGF (vascular endothelial growth factor) which encourages production of new blood vessels. This provides a surge of oxygen and nutrients to the treated area and improves circulation, resulting in cell restoration. Within several days of having your treatment there is an increased natural distribution of oxygen in the treated area and a completely new microcirculation is created, lymphatic drainage is increased and in this way skin regeneration is achieved.

TREATMENT PLAN:

  • 1st Co2 facial combined with Hydrofacial

  • 10 treatments every 8-10 days

  • Maintenance - every few months depending on age group

TREATMENT INCLUDES:

  • Co2 Therapy

  • Complimentary O2toDerm Oxygen Therapy

  • Complimentary PDT Light Therapy

THIS TREATMENT CAN OFFER LONG LASTING SKIN IMPROVEMENTS SUCH AS:

  • Elastin stimulation

  • Tissue tightening and brightening

  • Skin regeneration

  • Reduction of dark circles

  • Improved blood flow & circulation

  • Improved lymph drainage

  • It's great for all skin types

THE CARBOXY TREATMENT IS FOR:

  • Aids with collagen repair

  • Intensive rejuvenation of the skin and stopping premature ageing processes

  • Reduced wrinkles and their depth

  • Improved skin regeneration processes

  • Reduced pigment spots and black circles under the eyes

  • Smoother skin, smaller pores and emphasized face contour

  • Reduced skin swelling

  • Prevention of visible skin capillaries

HOW MANY CARBOXY TREATMENTS ARE REQUIRED AND MAINTENANCE?

For optimal results, 10 treatments are recommended and the treatments can be conducted once every 8-10 days. The effects of a Carboxy treatment are cumulative – with every subsequent treatment improving the results of the previous one. After having a course of carboxytherapy treatments, the average effects last (until you need the next course of treatments):

  • Age 50+           2 - 3 months

  • Age 40+           3 - 4 months

  • Age 20 - 40      4 - 6 months

Carboxytherapy is a very effective, non-invasive method for anti-aging with continued monthly maintenance treatments, which will help stimulate collagen production that is loss as we continue to age.

HOW IS THE TREATMENT PERFORMED?

The treatment takes about a hour. During the treatment a 2 part gel is applied to the face in an even layer. As the CO2 is being infused into the hypoderm, you will feel heat and tingling sensation and the skin can become mildly red due to a sudden deposit of oxygen. At this moment, the Bohr effect has set in, which refers to the phenomenon that increased in active vasodilation and oxygen tension in blood vessels when CO2 is absorbed into the skin.  You can go back to your usual activities after treatment as no recovery period is required.
